I know that some of you have seen this on Facebook... but for those that don'tfrequent the site, here is a recent photo of my progress. Things have been abit slow for a few months due to a variety of reasons, but I've never quit thinkingof my project. Most recently I have assembled my engine at CC#28, fabricatedmy firewall, fabricated the front wing braces and cut my instrument panels. Now I am preparing to start rigging some tail brace cables and control cables.Anyhow... I hope it is inspirational for some. This was on display at our chapter hangar last Saturday for Learn to Fly Day.--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage and Fuse framed up - Working on Landing GearRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Diaganols

Hi John,Leave it as is. This diagonal brace prevents the left and right sides from racking. It should be straight, not bowed.Greg CardinalMinneapolis----- Original Message -----

Agreed. Leave it straight=2C as it is. It will prevent 'racking' and you don't want your fabric sticking to all the underlying structure.Lorenzo ________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Diaganols

IF they had ever had a Learn To Fly day when I was growing up, and IF I had seensomething like your naked airframe there, I would have spent as much time asthey would have let me, walking around it and looking at how it was made andgetting the proportions and geometry fixed in my mind, and figuring out how allthe controls were eventually going to get hooked up. Then I would have gonehome and made sketches and 3-views of it, colored my 3-view with pencil colors, put fabric on it in my mind, and then flown it. That is a dream machine fora dreamer. Thanks for sharing.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Diaganols

John;I see the picture on the wall in your shop. Those two airplanes flying togetherare just beautiful, and I have several other shots of them flying together. What a pair! If I'm not mistaken, the red one is 899FP, Frank Pavliga's, andthe green one is 899DE, Don Emch's.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Tue, 20 May 2014 06:06:45 -0700 (PDT)

Thanks Oscar... I like to think I might have done the same. I was always doodlingairplanes and rockets and such on my book covers, notebooks, etc. The photo was taken around 9:00am... a few of our volunteers were just startingto show up as the event didn't start until 10:00. A bit of information aboutthe event... we signed 124 waivers (24 of which are new Young Eagles), and noteveryone flew, so I think it is safe to assume that we had ~200 people (includingvolunteers) in attendance. There was a group around my project most ofthe time. Thankfully everyone minded my "please do not touch" signs, so no damagewas done... I got a LOT of compliments, and that was just from people whoknew that I was the builder. Surely there were many people who were amazed withthe inner workings of an airplane... like I said, I just hope it served toinspire someone. I got an email this morning from one of our local newspapereditors stating, "your project was the crown jewel of the flight line." I getthe impression that people liked seeing it.

Correct Oscar. Don sent me a high res picture at my request. I took it to Walmartand had the poster made. I show it to everyone who stops by as they wantto see what the finished aircraft will look like.--------John FrancisRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Tue, 20 May 2014 21:06:24 -0700 (PDT)
