Today I flew Pietenpol N110DL for the first time. It was flown by a friend, last year, the day before Hurricane Irene.Just two friends were there and the only picture we got was a 13 sec video. There were thousands of seagulls as witnesses, you can hear their voices in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvrfW4Wa ... fjGMGLFm4I seem to have solved the sticking exhaust valve problem, by putting a little Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel. The engine runs great now.The airplane handles well, but I need to get smoother air to really get the feel of it. Many thanks to all on the list who have given me good advice and encouragement, especially Jack Phillips.Don Lane________________________________________________________________________________

Great, Don! Glad to hear that you've finally gotten to fly your beautifulPietenpol. Now you need to fly the time off so you can fly it to Brodheadand let everyone else see what a fine airplane you've built.Jacl PhillipsNX899JPSmith Mountain Lake Virginia _____

Thanks Douwe!I missed seeing you at Blakesburg this year but I did see your fantastic Piet. Well I did see you a couple of times but you were smoking the field each time at about 50 feet. I flew the tripacer again this year, maybe next year we can meet up and fly the Piets in.Rick Schreiber NX478RSSent from my iPad> On Sep 28, 2015, at 8:20 AM, Douwe Blumberg wrote:> > Thanks Bill, used that link to see the pics.> > Rick, what a great moment and a beautiful bird!> > Douwe> > 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D> ________________________________________________________________________________

Pietenpol-List: bungees

Hey Tools,First time I wrapped the axle, I used two separate lengths thinking if onebroke I would still have another, kind of an =93early warning system=94.Now I just use one big one. Everybody, do make sure you have a safety cableor something to catch the axle if your bungees ever do let go.I spent a lot of time covering every bolt head/nut with rounded =93covers=94(modified plastic faucet washers) trying to eliminate every potential =93wearspot=94 that could start chewing through the bungees. I think if you=92rereally careful and thoughtful you can eliminate most of them, but it reallydoesn=92t take much. Even a hard edge on the wood gear will do it. I glued ahalf-round to the bottom of my gear to eliminate those hard edges. Alsowrapped most of it in heavy inner tube rubber.Since 799B is rather heavy, I use 5/8=94 bungee rather than =BD=94 and it=92swrapped pretty tight. Works for me.And no buddy, though I like =93soft squishy landings=94 I don=92t alwaysaccomplish them. After I installed my angle of attack indicator thissummer, I was experimenting with very low speed landings and dropped her infrom what felt like six feet or so (was probably more like three, butstill!) which felt awful.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________Date: Sun, 13 Nov 2016 17:09:02 -0800
