Finally, after 2 1/2 months of no building progress, we have finallysettled into our new house, and I am set up in my new 34'x30' shop! Ihave all of my tools organized, and my rib jig/oak door set up, andhave my ribs lined up in the larger portion of the garage (the carpart) to look just like a Pietenpol wing. I have an order of sprucefrom Wicks on the way as I type this- enough for me to finish the 16remaining wing ribs, and the entire empennage, and I am one happycamper!Anyone bored enough to want to see pics of my new setup may do so here:http://207.140.1.221/w3builder/piet/MyP ... shtmlThere you will find an exact copy of the above text, with links to thepictures (4 of them).Richard DeCostaOne Happy (Air) Camper==http://www.wrld.com/w3builder"All knowledge is of itself of some value. Hi Richard, Congratulations on your new home and your new shop. If I may passalong some info that helped me. Check your dimensions on your new rib capstrip material so that it matches your previous cut dimensions exactly.Otherwise your new ribs will not match your previous ones as closely as youmay think and you will have a new "educational experience" when you beginto assemble the wing. I go to your image collection quite often, and I am very grateful forall of your reference and resource work that you are providing to ourgroup. Thanks Richard.Best Regards,Warren________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks. That's something I hadn't thought of. You're talking aboutmaking sure the new capstrip is exactly the same size as I used on my1st 12 ribs, right? How close to they need to be? Am I in for someplaning if they are not exact? Is it a weight concern or a shapeconcern? Thanks,Richard---Warren Shoun wrote:>> Hi Richard,> Congratulations on your new home and your new shop. Richard, The concern is shape and dimension. If the thickness is off even asmall amount, the fit over the spars and the length of the ribs matching upto the leading edge piece will require an amazing amount of work to fit andrig properly. I watched this happen on a group project where several different peopleworked on the Piet, even using the same jigs, and it required a lot of workto fit and rig. Good luck.Warren________________________________________________________________________________

I dont have my spars yet, but would putting the finished ribs on fakespars (pine or something), or in some kind of "'multiple rib' jig" asI finish them help at all in keeping them lined up right? or do I justhave to wait til I am ready to assemble my wing?RD---Warren Shoun wrote:>> Richard,> The concern is shape and dimension. Richard, I didn't mean to cause you an undue amount of anxiety here. I thinkif it is just something to be aware of, especially on matching thedimensions of your rib cap strip material, that you will be fine. If asyou finish your ribs, and check them against each other for match, yourfinished wing will be in good shape. Most wings seem to require at leasta small amount of long board sanding anyway...and this isn't a high speedlaminar flow wing anyway.WarrenRichard DeCosta wrote:> I dont have my spars yet, but would putting the finished ribs on fake> spars (pine or something), or in some kind of "'multiple rib' jig" as> I finish them help at all in keeping them lined up right? or do I just> have to wait til I am ready to assemble my wing?>> RD>> ---Warren Shoun wrote:> >> > Richard,> > The concern is shape and dimension.
