The cabane fittings on the 3 piece wing supplement plans appears to be differentthan those shown on page 4 of the '34 plans. The '34 plans show an extra tabon the fitting with a hole drilled in it for attachment of something. Can anyoneexplain this to me?--------JohnRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Fri, 14 Oct 2011 10:03:33 -0700 (PDT)

I found this pic on westcoastpiet under Jack Textor. Can I assume because he isusing this style fitting he is going to add the wires?--------JohnRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/caba ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Cabane fittings

The plane was actually a Grega but first licenced as a Piet by Mr. Spink. Builtin Florida in 1991. I owned it for some years both in CA and OK and sold itto Mike last May. He told me about his other Piet and its demise and just wantinganother similar plane. The 0-200 always ran strong, fuel flow was not aproblem unless there wasn't any. Plane had a 12 gal. fuse tank and a 6 gal.wing tank. Many years ago I also experienced a loss on takeoff after leavingthe selector on "OFF". Luckily we were on a looong runway and got the handleswitched and engine restarted while still over the field. It does get your attentionthough. So glad to see that Mike was unhurt. This was my last pic of the Piet.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/gedc ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Cabane fittings

John as I look closer you may be correct. I fabricated mine from drawing 4of the original plans, with the tab on the front fittings only. I felt thiswas a good way to "connect" to the tubing down to the upper motor mounts. Ididn't see a similar way to do so on the improved plans.JackDSM-----Original Message-----

John,You're on your own to come up with the upper connection for the diagonal bracing. It is not shown in any Pietenpol plans (maybe the Grega plans have something?).Some builders connect the diagonal bracing to the upper front cabane brackets, like Jack is doing, and some builders attach to the cabane strut, just belowthe fitting. Either method will work. You should be able to find plenty ofrelevant photos on westcoastpiet.com .Probably the reason why there are no details in the Pietenpol plans is that whenBHP used the diagonal bracing (the Last Original), he welded the diagonals tothe cabanes. Thus no need for fittings at the top end. The only catch with thismethod is that there is no adjustment, so if the wings need to be shiftedaft (or fore) for W+B, you will need to make new struts.http://www.westcoastpiet.com/images/BHP ... 80.JPGBill C.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Cabane fittings

After putting much thought and research into this conundrum, I decided to do whatGary Boothe did......tie them together with string. [Wink]--------JohnRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/cent ... __________

John,If used as a connection for a forward brace, that tab is probably OK innormal flight, as it will always be in tension. However, others haveexpressed concern about what may happen in a nose-over, or similar incident, and the tab bends or breaks, and the wing is allowed to shift, causing wingtank fuel lines to rupture. It is an easy matter to design and build severalalternatives, if you think that is a concern. You are obviously puttingthought into this, so let us know what you come up with.My struts and braces are wood, so require a different approach...Gary from Cool-----Original Message-----

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: cool videoReally Cool Douwe. The studio looked kinda barren with no Piet sitting in the middle of it, but I guess I can understand the change in the layout, sculpture and all.Actually that's just too cool, congratulations and what an honor to be selected for such a project, like Dan says WOW! I am impressed.and if miniatures should become available, put me in right above Dick N on the list for my copy.Great Job and thanks for sharingJohn This is worth archiving at least once________________________________________________________________________________
