Hi Guys,I have just bought Dale McCleskey's Piet and am presently trying to ship itto Australia.I have a local shipping agent here in Australia dealing with it but I needsome help with the packing. It will need to be packed in a 20 footcontainer. The aircraft is presently disassembled in Braggs OK. The shipper has apacker in Florida and another in San Francisco. Both are a bit far fromBraggs!Does anybody know of a packer closer to Braggs that could pack the Piet inthe container for me?Many thanksPeterWonthaggi Australiahttp://www.cpc-world.com________________________________________________________________________________

I did the requisite matronics search and found a few vague references tosome generic covering materials. Does anyone have a specific product orsupplier that they like?Gary BootheNX308MB________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Cockpit Covers

I know I am way ahead of myself here but I was considering using Sunbrella. I had a boat cover made with it and it sure is holding up well.--------John FrancisRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Gary,I used the best vinyl I could get from the local fabric shop, on Felix. Used TurnButton Fasteners on the front pit and just snaps on the back pit, I never flywith the back pit covered.Skip----- Original Message -----

Hi Peter, and congrats on your new wings! The outfit that I would recommend is Viking Packing Specialist located here inTulsa, Oklahoma. These guys manufacture all kinds of custom shipping containersfor individuals, airlines, Department of Defense and other government agencies. They once packaged an F-15 eagle for shipment to a museum. The owner of the company is an avid aviator and EAA member who also owns a very active flight school on my home field, so he is aware of the needs and concerns involved with handling aircraft. You can read a little about their operation here http://vikingpacking.com/If you call 1-800-788-8525 and ask for Michelle, she can help you. I have alreadycontacted the owner to give him an idea of what it is you are wanting to ship(he knows what a Pietenpol is)... he will brief Michelle on the job.He said that they prefer that the aircraft be disassembled to is shipping configurationin order to simply package the items and get them on their way, but hesaid that they would take care of disassembly if necessary. I would imaginethat the disassembly operation would occur in Beggs, OK prior to any movement, which is only about 45 minutes south of Tulsa... I could probably round up afew Pietenpol builders to oversee and advise on that part of the operation ifit were necessary. I'm not sure what other options there may be in Oklahoma, but this is one thatI know of. They are a very reputable and respected outfit. I've been to theirfacility and it is amazing. I'd say that you could certainly ship your newbird with confidence using Viking.--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage and Fuse framed up - Working on Landing GearRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: I've bought a Piet!

Just realized that I misread the location... Braggs, not Beggs. Oh well, Braggsis not too much further away. Maybe a little over an hour from Tulsa. Suream glad it didn't turn out to be in western OK! @Gary... Glad someone has a favorable impression of me. More often than not Iget suspicious looks from people when they hear that I associate with guys namedMarkle, Recine, Booth, Purtee, etc.--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage and Fuse framed up - Working on Landing GearRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: re:Pietenpol fly In at BrodheadAs I read this post, the good idea fairy settled on my shoulder and said, "Can'twe all just get along?"Rather than simply ban RC aircraft. Give them a place to do their thing. Some havesome neat Pietenpol RC planes. If there is a small grass area on the backside or away from the runway and pattern, perhaps a small RC field could be setup. Have an RC airboss, who keeps people in the right area and let kids flysome small backyard flyers. Perhaps a line of trees between the real plane runwayand the RC area. I have been at airshows (more control to be sure) wherethe RC guys flew between each act. At Oshkosh they even have a Ultralight area.See if anyone will provide some simple RC aircraft for kids to fly.I have little interest in RC except just to play around. I don't build planes, talk electronics, and so forth. However, I am using RC to keep my 10 YO grandsoninterested in flying. He has one of these with a couple of spare parts. http://secure.hobbyzone.com/catalog/hz/HBZ4900.htmlIt is simple and fun to fly. Blue Skies,Steve D----- Original Message -----

Hello Fred, I had the same questions awhile back and with some advice from BillChurch and Mike Cuy, I went with 3/32 wire and the 130-16s turnbuckle assemblyand it worked out perfect. I ordered everything from aircraft spruceincluding the wire cutters and swagger. If you want the part #s for the cutterand swagger email me at larryvangerven(at)hotmail.comTake care Larry VRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: I've bought a Piet!

Peter, I've been told that your package has been shipped. I have been out of town,so I'm not sure when it actually departed, but I suspect that you do nothave it yet. David from Viking Packing tells me that he e-mailed me some photos, but they went to my work e-mail, which I currently do not have access to.I'll check for them tomorrow and post whatever I have.--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage and Fuse framed up - Working on Landing GearRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Group,I need to correct a statement I made last night. 1/16" cable is rated at480lbs not 940lbs. Still believe it is way stronger than the wood itsupports. Thanks for the heads up Greg.Ski________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: I've bought a Piet!

Checked my mail... it doesn't seem that David sent any packaging photos, but hereare a couple from when they loaded it onto the trailer. According to Davidthere was minimal damage... he said that the tailwheel/post area would need someattention, otherwise it is intact.--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage and Fuse framed up - Working on Landing GearRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/n703 ... __________
