I'll second the notion that the "improved" gear is lighter, have read that in oldnewsletters or somewhere, but I don't know for sure.Which one is easier to build it really more of a matter of which medium you'remore comfortable with. The wood gear doesn't require any welding... I know theplans do show the fuse fittings with a little weld on them, but 2RN was builtwithout welding them at all and they've had no problems because of it. The wood gear does have some whacky angles and will require dimensioning lumber,and possibly gluing up, a fair amount of shaping it, etc.Although I'd be comfortable now welding up gear, I sure wasn't when I started downthis path which made the gear choice, not really a choice at all.
