Kitplanes doesn<t reach Australia for about two months. Inormally pick it up and thumb through it but put it down again if there isnothing that catches my interest.Regarding the direct drive Subaru. A friend is using one in a 7/8 scaleNeuport and the perfomance is very mediocre. That engine, which I shall beusing in my Piet, definitely needs a fairly low, as in ratio, reductiondrive in order to swing a 6 foot propeller of fairly course pitch (46"?) fortwo major reasons.(a) You need a large mass of air moving relatively slowly for a highdrag, low and slow aeroplane like the Piet and(b) The engine needs to run in the 3000 to 5000 rpm range which is where thetorque is, in order to drive that same propeller. Geez, our drugstores only carry the July issue so far. I'll have to snagsomebody with a subscription. (don't you love all the folks who visist your Piet project and want to know where you got your kit ?)OK- Fabric question: what's the treatment you used around controlhorn exits, etc. Did you PRE-shrink the fabric and tack it up witha coat of poly tak first and then glue it down or did you use the fabric'as is' and glue it down ? Thanks- mc________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks- mc On fabric. cover the part and shrink the fabric to 350 degrees. Thenmake a gussett of preshrunk fabric (225-250degrees) and apply withpolybrush. Let dry and do a second coat. One thing that really helpsis to apply the gusset in a bias to the protrusion. This makes theshrinking process much easier. After the second application of polybrush is dry, shrink evenly around the protrusion. I lapped the fabricup about 3/8" on the horn itself for better adhesion.Stevee________________________________________________________________________________

Mike,I used the pre-shrink method and just glued it on with fabric cement.I was out in the Piet for about an Hour and a half last evening. It wasperfectly smooth. The only bumps were when I hit my own wake. The Pietis so much fun to fly I haven't been doing any cleaning or working on itand ect. just been flying a bunch around home. Your photo's look great. When do you think you'll be ready to fly?Craig________________________________________________________________________________
